About me

Hi everyone, I am Liny and I am a hippy! No, that is silly.

Hi everybody, my name is Linda and I live in the Czech Republic. Too serious.

Hi everyone,

I'm Liny and I am glad that you are here. :) Yeah, this will do.

I founded this blog in order to promote healthy lifestyle and vegan diet. Nevertheless, if you're not vegan, raw vegan, or even vegetarian, it doesn't matter, you are still more than welcomed. Because you don't have to be a hippie to appreciate the yumminess of my recipes!

But at this point, let me tell you something about me and about me going vegan.

Let's go back to the summer 2013. I was sitting at home and pretty much boring myself to death. At least I made myself a nice breakfast (some yoghurt with granola) and lunch (some pastry with ham and cheese). Super healthy food, right? I was always interested in this whole lifestyle thing.

Later in the same afternoon, I was watching some videos on YouTube. I apparently saw something vegan related, can't remember exactly what it was. However, it caught my attention and I started to explore the issue. Taking it all, I have always been an animal lover, like everyone else. But the more I was digging into this, the worse I felt. Even though I knew where my everyday yoghurt, cheese and ham came from, obviously. So I watched some more documentaries about industrial farming.

I was completely shocked by the whole concept. Disgusted by the slaughterhouses. Angry on myself and every single meateater on the planet. Frustrated because I had just seen such an insane horror and was not able to stop it. I suddenly realized that the absolute minimum I could do in that moment, was to go vegan. There was a giant yellow lightbulb above my head, twinkling like an alarm. I was not sure how easy it would be but was determined to do it no matter what. I could not imagine myself eating any animal products anymore. If it wasn't good enough for my eyes, it couldn't be good for my stomach. And later I found out that plantbased diet had really massive health benefits, both physical and psychological.

Surprisingly, for me, going vegan was not the slightest problem. I was really pleased with how many vegan options there were even in my smallish town and that my family and friends accepted my decision. Well, except from my grandma. But that's a whole another story.

It's been a year and I am more convinced about veganism being the "right thing" than ever. Starting with this completely new lifestyle was one of the best decisions in my life, and it came out of nowhere. They say that the best things happen when you expect them the least. I would like to share with you all the benefits of this amazing lifestyle and inspire you to go vegan- for a day, for a week, maybe forever. Give it a try. It's probably easier than you think. :)

  1. Hello Liny

I must say your story is scary alike what i experienced myselfe. Not a year ago though, but at least 3 months so far, and its growing stronger on me by the day. Do you find it difficult to be a vegan sometimes when it comes to the social life? Dining out and getting invited to dinners etc? And how do you approach it? Sometimes i get tired of the same discussions and i cant help it, but im always getting a bit provoked of their arguing... By the way i saw you had the nice list of documentaries, you should see "Blackfish". And i just came over this new docu called "Cowspiracy" as well as "The Ghosts in Our Machine". At least i love watching documentaries like this :P You inspire me Liny :)

    1. Hi Stian,

First of all, let me congratulate you on going vegan, great decision :)
Now to your questions. I do not find it too difficult to be a vegan in terms of my social life. Every restaurant has got a vegetarian/vegan options nowadays. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer to order your meal and explain everything to the waiter (that fish are also animals or something like that), but that's okay :D I am lucky enough to say that my family and friends have absolutely no problem with me being vegan.
I don't mind somebody making fun of me, however, when he makes fun of torturing and killing animals, I can get very angry. It's just a part of my temper and people who know me well also know that they should not do that :) The classic arguments like "we've been eating meat since forever", "plants have also feelings" and "we just love the taste of meat and cheese" don't upset me anymore. You know, there are two types of people: one that want to listen and one that don't. Don't waste yout time with the second group. This is something that I've learned in the past year. Focus on the open-minded personalities who are ready to accept your point of view and who are maybe even willing to change themselves and their lifestyles.
Btw. thank you so much for the documentaries, I will add them to the post. Nevertheless, I will not probably watch them. It is too painful for me, I've seen enough and some pictures come to my mind all the time. I mean that these movies wake you up and that's really great. But now I would like to focus on the positive things in my vegan "struggle". :) I do my best to inspire people and I really appreciate that I inspire you. People won't go vegan just because you tell them to do so. We should live as an example for them. Simply "be the change you wish to see in the world". :)

  2. Hi again

Thank you Liny :) Nice of you. I have never felt better in my life than after i decided to go Vegan. Not sure what im gonna do with all my animal based products (cloths for most of it), but i guess i figure it out.. At least not buying any new products in that range.. Im from Norway, and trust me, its not always a vegetarian/vegan option. This country is like the stone age when it comes to vegan movement. Sadly :( I have the same as you with my family. They support me in my choice. My brother thinks im a loony, but thats another story. Ignorant guy with diabetes 2. I say no more.
To be honest with you, i started on a vegan diet couse of Forks over knives scared me a bit. But after 3 months of research im more or less shocked how everything works. A book i have gotten recommended is "Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran. I understand what you mean when it comes to the negative content in these videos (cried when watching earthlings), so yes, maby its not any point in watching all of them. Though i have friends that are curious on the subject. Nice to "shock" them a bit on the harsh reality.... anyway..
Do you have any experience with 100% raw? looking a bit on it. more or less raw until after work anyway so... Sorry for the blabbering :P
Have a nice rest of the day :)

    1. Don't apologise and keep blabbering, I am always so happy to talk to another vegans because in my neighbourhood there aren't any :)
I agree with you, I have never felt better too, and I had the same problem with animal products. I stopped buying them of course, but I still have a leather wallet and a filofax. I know that it may sound weird but these two things are special to me and I can't easily throw them away. Plus the animals maybe died just because of that and I feel that the product should be treated with some dignity as well.. I don't know, it's strange. Moreover, as a girl I do my best to use makeup and cosmetic products that are vegan and not tested on animals, but it is quite challenging.
I was interested in the health aspect of a plantbased diet before I went vegan as well, but the turning point for me was the brutality with which animals are treated, I was just disgusted. And it's getting worse and worse, I cannot stand the smell of burning meat, or a look at it.
The Czech Republic is in the stone age too, but you know, in every restaurant you can have a plain salad or something :) It's good that you aspire to inspire your friends and your brother should definitely educate (or vegucate) himself on this :)
I went mostly raw a month ago so I am still getting into it. 100% is tough, it is ok during the day but in the evening I crave something filling and raw salads just don't work for me yet. However, I am gluten-free for 2 months now, I guess, and that is important at this point. Also, I am probably experiencing a slight detox since my energy level is quite low and inconsistent. Hope it'll get better :) 100% 80/10/10 diet according to Dr Graham is my goal :)

  3. Then we are two, no one here to share anything with either :( I recently moved to a smaller town in Norway (fredrikstad) because i got a job here. Moved alone and trust me, its hard enough to find a vegan to talk to in the capital.
I must admit that i was kind of bad when it came to animal products. Most of my bags are leather and most of my winter shoes are too. So havent figured out that one yet. I totally agree with you when it comes to throwing already bought products away. I think im gonna try and sell/give away some of it and keep a couple of things that i like the most. Everyone should live by their own code. A lot of people criticizes if i do something "wrong" like wearing a leather watch, and they say things like hypocrite or double moralist. I think the problem is once you go vegan or anything else for that matter people put å label on you and you have to play by those rules. I find this very stupid because then people will keep being passive.
I think (i may be wrong) that norway now only allow cosmetics (produce and sell) that are not tested on animals. At leas i red it on a norwegian animal right organization. That is a veeery big step in the right direction :)
I have red many places that people want to take away the gluten in their diet, why is that (if you are not alergic ofc). I dont understand the big harm of some gluten? But if its a goal for you, congrats with 2 month :))
I have also been looking a bit at th 80/10/10 diet from Dr. Graham, but i dont think im there yet. I love to have some warm food in my body from time to time. Special in the evenings.. I have tried to tell my brother all sorts of things, sent him links to rapports, documentaries etc, but he is as stubborn and blind as he is big ;) It really makes me sad when he tells me that he has been sooo healthy lately and eat tons of mayonnaise light in stead of the regular one. But the sad part is that lots and lots of people think like this. Ignorants and trust the commercials blindly.

May i ask what you took your diploma in? At least it looked as you were happy to get it :) I just started working after 7 years at school. About time! But its another big change in life too. Why not do all the changes at once right ;)
Have to go. Gonna do some swimming before the pool closes. Anyway, ad me on facebook (my name is Stian Normann Andersen) if you feel like it. Nice to blabber :)
